favorite moiraine is internally spoiled, prissy princess moiraine. like, she doesn't complain out loud (partly bc that would be rude and unbecoming) but damn if she doesn't think that the people are behaving like commoners and that the white tower chambers are cold and all the time her modesty gets compromised she bought herself a horse to celebrate graduation and siuan wouldn't let her get her a horse too 🙄 not to mention that she couldn't bear to wear only white clothes for a DAY longer than necessary

no matter what else she can do, she'll also always be a rich girl who is outraged that other noblewomen are acting beneath their station 🧐

I was going to write a post about how Moiraine isn't very smart, but I think her contrast and balance against Siuan is actually more interesting. Moiraine can't solve a puzzle to save her life the world, and Siuan can't navigate dangerous social waters to save her life (or the world). Together, though, they are a powerhouse. Moiraine navigates the social waters, Siuan solves the puzzles, and as a team they absolutely can stay alive and save the world.

How frustrating, then, that they become separated so early. Jordan hits this theme hard, over and over again, most especially with the ta'veren: the soldiers of the Light are strongest when they work together. Having it reflected in Moiraine and Siuan's early adventures is delicious. Their separation sends each into her weakness, and the world almost dies because of it.

They need to hurry up and do New Spring while they still have her on the payroll.

Moiraine had died following that same quest, but at least she had been able to go out and see the world. Siuan had grown old—in spirit, if not in body—cooped up in the Tower, pulling her strings and nudging the world. She'd done some good. Time would tell if those efforts had been enough.

I still think one of the funniest parts of New Spring is when Moiraine goes on her completely unprompted internal rant about Ellid and it boils down to "god she's so fucking perfect, she's smart and hot and funny and super nice, her ONLY flaw is that her tits are TOO BIG" and it's even funnier when you remember this was written by ROBERT JORDAN known big boob enjoyer. so this is all Moiraine. whatever size Siuan's boobs are is the perfect size, and anything bigger than that is too big
